We’re developing a radically-new, instrument-free platform for single-cell sequencing with disruptive throughput and experimental ease. We’re growing our Cambridge R&D team to help launch a new era of NGS-based cellular analysis.

 

Position Summary

We're expanding our Cambridge R&D laboratory and are looking for an exceptional Laboratory Manager to join our team. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient running of our R&D facilities in central Cambridge to support our fast-paced, high-impact technology and product development. This will be achieved through management of supply chains/stocks, maintenance of equipment, ensuring sufficient cell/specimen stocks, oversight of standard operating procedures, and ensuring best practices in laboratory/research operations. In this role you will work closely with scientists of all levels as well as senior management to ensure efficient running of our laboratories.

 

You will be instrumental in implementation of standardised laboratory practices and nurturing of supplier relationships, as well as taking a key position in health and safety throughout the company. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced, highly-skilled Laboratory Manager to use their experience, knowledge, and creativity to accelerate the development of cutting-edge products in single-cell genomics. The ideal candidate will be an organized, meticulous, and confident professional with significant experience in life science laboratory management.

 

This position would be available as a part-time or full-time role and would suit someone who is looking to apply their previous experience to a fast-paced start-up environment. This opportunity will allow the ideal candidate to build processes from the ground-up that will have significant impacts on the operations and speed of R&D at CS Genetics.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Management of suppliers and external service providers
  • Writing and maintenance of risk assessments and health and safety documentation
  • Management of instrumentation and preventative maintenance contracts
  • General laboratory organisation
  • Inventory monitoring, purchasing, and usage-forecasting of key consumables
  • Acting as a point of contact with building management
  • Training of laboratory staff in safe practices
  • Aiding the scientific team in the maintenance of cell/specimen stocks
  • Supporting our broader R&D team with routine laboratory work as needed

 

Required Skills and Background

  • A Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or similar field with 3+ years of laboratory experience (an equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered)
  • Proven experience in a laboratory management role within a life sciences laboratory in academia and/or industry (preferably within a molecular/cellular biology environment)
  • Experience in implementation of new laboratory equipment and operating procedures
  • Enthusiasm for a demanding, fast-paced role in a small-startup environment
  • A keen eye for spotting procedural inefficiencies, strong IT skills, and excellent communication abilities
  • Experience with the implementation of risk assessments and management of health and safety
